Why Standard Euro Cylinders Fail — and What Anti-Snap Locks Do Differently
A standard euro cylinder is shaped so that the section protruding beyond the door face is under enormous stress when a burglar applies sideways force. That exposed section simply shears off, exposing the internal cam that controls the latch. TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinders address this with a deliberate sacrificial break point engineered into the front of the cylinder — well away from the locking mechanism itself. When force is applied, the front portion breaks off as designed, but the internal workings remain fully intact and locked. The cylinder cannot be turned, and the door stays shut. Many also incorporate anti-pick, anti-drill, and anti-bump features, so they resist the full toolkit a modern opportunist carries.
The TS007 standard is set by the British Standards Institution and is the benchmark most home insurers and local authority housing associations now expect. A 3-star rating can be achieved by fitting a single 3-star cylinder, or by combining a 1-star cylinder with a 2-star door handle — our technicians will advise which combination suits your existing door furniture so you are not paying for parts you do not need. If you are a tenant, we can also liaise with your letting agent about what is permissible under your tenancy agreement before we start work.
